With Mark L.'s definition of people age <24 as having experienced UCAPP their whole lives, that puts me on one side of the line and my sister on the other. And I feel the difference between us all of the time. My sister has 900+ friends on facebook and sends text messages to her friends continuously all day long. She sees no difference between e-chatting with her friends from school and e-chatting with my mother's second cousin's ex-wife who she has met only once in her life. She has never experienced writing a letter and waiting a month for a response. She has never experienced having a question and not being able to look up the answer within a minute. She has continuous connectivity. Her whole life is open to the world via facebook and her blog so I feel like she is a perfect example of the change from media for the masses to media by the masses. But I never thought through media by the masses as contributing to the collaborative construction of identity before. It makes sense, but just never realized that as an element of what is going on.
